Here's what Amayah's mama wanted to share about her:

 

"Amayah was born with a port wine stain on the right side of her face. A port wine stain is a vascular birthmark caused by abnormal development of blood vessels in the skin. A port wine stain is sometimes referred to as a capillary malformation. Amayah was immediately admitted into NICU and had to endure an extensive amount of painful tests. All of her results came back normal! However, one of her doctors said she should have her birthmark removed because it didn't "fit today's standard of beauty". We, as her parents, were terribly hurt by this comment. My husband convinced me that we should at least consider it. We were about to start treatments in New Orleans, then the Covid-19 pandemic hit, which bought our plans to a halt. During that time, we decided that Amayah can make her own decisions regarding her birthmark when she gets older and we would strive to teach and show her the beauty that she possesses! Amayah is a lovable one year old with an obsession with Cocomelon! She also enjoys chasing her older brother, David, and singing! It is very important to us that she grows up seeing and communicating with other people with various differences to see how beautifully unique God has made us all!"
